Mass effect 2 is out…and we missed it!!

….Yes ok so we missed mass effect 2, it wasn’t big and it wasn’t clever. Sometimes though things happen beyond your control. It is a great game – if you haven’t got your copy of mass effect2 yet you really need to grab it (best place is Amazon – see side bar – and if your in the uk..) – we have got a new guest poster who is going to do a quick post or two detailing his experiences of the game so far – so keep your eyes peeled – and if you want to write about the latest and greatest mass effect game then comment on this blog!

The e3 show is always a great source of upcoming video game news, previews and sneaky releases. This year Mass Effect 2 from bioware featured in e3 and launched first a prelude to e3 2009 trailer (below) and then also a mid show trailer for the 2009 release of the Mass Effect game (mass effect 2.)

So watch this e3 mass effect 2 trailer and see – did shepard die? is he/she now a Geth? its not exactly confirmed but enjoy this wonderful sneak peak at mass effect 2, from E3 (courtesy of game trailers.)

limited edition mass effect 2?

The first game (mass effect 1) was released in a special “limited edition” release (Mass Effect 1 Limited Edition Copy) – but will mass effect 2 get a similar release? We haven’t heard anything from bioware on this yet but as fans of the first games extra exclusives we would love to see another version with the new game. If they make a mass effect 2 limited edition no doubt there will be a huge number of people buying that over the regular copy of the game, especially as such a cult following now cant wait for the game to be released. We expect there to be a special limited edition version of mass effect 2, but we might have to wait for it – if the additional extra’s like documentary’s stories, videos etc about the game are included it might take them a while to record/ get these ready – but definitely where with the first mass effect buyers may have cautiously brought a non limited edition copy, anyone who did play the first one is likely to buy the full version with all the extras of the second game – because it captivated its audience so well. Do you think bioware will release a limited edition Mass Effect 2 this year?

Making of Mass Effect 1

This great two part video was included in the limited edition version of mass effect 1 (will there be a limited edition mass effect 2?) and is a small documentary made about the first mass effect rpg game. If you did not buy the original limited edition masseffect1 then you may not have seen this, if your a fan you should definitely give it some time. Split into two parts here is the Making of Mass Effect video. Note the repetitive signing in with XBOX live and the many an interesting discussion with the developers!

Mass effect 2 speeds up elevator rides

Supposedly bioware are working on a faster loading system, one that should cut down the amount of awkward time spent within the elevator rides with Wrex. The first mass effect game featured a few things heavily, firstly the most newsworthy feature seemed to be the gaming sex scenes, which grabbed the media quite extensively. Seperate to this lesbian alien sex there was also the formidable elevator rides. These rides in the mass effect elevator met mixed critisism, ultimately it was designed to mask the loading of new levels – which some thought it was a good idea and was a lot better than simply displaying a loading screen. Other recent games such as Portal (on the half life engine) have also used this technique and overall to the non veteran gamer it does mask the loading of new levels nicely, making the whole experience less segmented.

But some critics thought the elevator rides were over the top and a more efficient game loading screen would have done if it had cut down the time spent loading. Some elevator rides did last up to 1 minute, which is quite a long time to be stuck in any elevator, let alone in mass effect. Gamers like shooting things, exploring, running jumping – climbing you know – action stuff – elevator rides are not really action.

Anyway according to an interview with BioWare founders it was one of the major feedback’s recieved from the first mass effect game and they are actively looking to remove/improve these loading scenarios. YAY less time in lifts!
